Chasing the Tesla Dream: Blending Business Savvy, Music, and a Starlink Lifeline

At 62 (63 in May), I’m not slowing down—I’m revving up. I’ve spent over three decades building businesses, driving sales, and connecting with people, from selling high-end string instruments to leading national sales teams. Now, I’ve got my sights set on Tesla, specifically the
Business Development Manager, Energy Storage Engagement role. Why? Because it’s the perfect intersection of my skills, my passions, and my belief in a future powered by innovation. Plus, with a Starlink connection, I can keep my music teaching alive anywhere Tesla takes me—and I’m ready to move wherever the job demands.

A Lifetime of Growth and Grit

My career reads like a playlist of diverse tracks, each one teaching me something new. I’ve boosted revenue by 35% as National Sales Manager at Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics, grown niche markets at Pioneer Valley Luthier Supply, and crafted marketing campaigns that packed gyms at Amherst Fitness. I’ve built websites from scratch—back when “webmaster” was a cool title—and turned customer relationships into gold, whether for a chamber of commerce or my own music lessons gig. Co-founding Mandolin New England, Inc., and Celticado, my Irish music duo, showed me how to lead with purpose and hustle with heart.
Tesla’s energy storage mission—think Megapack and Powerwall—feels like the next verse in my song. I’ve always been about building something bigger, whether it’s a customer base or a community. This role’s focus on expanding sustainable energy solutions through partnerships and strategy? That’s my wheelhouse. I can already picture myself pitching to utilities, collaborating with engineers, and proving that storage isn’t just tech—it’s a game-changer for how we live.

Why Tesla? It’s Personal

I’m not just chasing a paycheck. Tesla’s push for a cleaner planet hits me on a gut level. I’ve spent years in New England, surrounded by nature’s soundtrack—wind through the trees, the strum of my mandolin on a quiet night. Sustainable energy isn’t abstract to me; it’s about keeping that world alive. Plus, Tesla’s relentless innovation mirrors my own drive. At an age when some might coast, I’m still “wicked smart” (as we say in Massachusetts) and bursting with energy. I want to work where that’s not just accepted—it’s expected.

Music Anywhere, Thanks to Starlink

Here’s the kicker: I don’t need to choose between this dream and my love for music. For 15 years, I’ve taught mandolin and guitar, growing my student base through grit and a decent website I built myself. Now, with Starlink’s satellite internet, I can teach from anywhere—Austin, Palo Alto, even a remote Nevada desert near a Tesla Gigafactory. All I need is my instrument, a laptop, and that dish beaming high-speed connection from the sky. Last week, I taught a lesson from my Granby, MA, backyard; tomorrow, it could be a Tesla break room. My students won’t miss a beat, and neither will I.

Ready to Move, Ready to Rock

Location? I’m not tied down. Granby’s been home, but I’d pack my bags for Tesla in a heartbeat. Whether it’s California’s tech buzz, Texas’ wide-open ambition, or anywhere else Elon’s building the future, I’m in. I’ve moved for opportunities before—Bread & Circus in the ‘80s, Apple Hill in the ‘90s—and I thrive on new challenges. Working in person at Tesla isn’t a hurdle; it’s a thrill. I want to be where the action is, shaking hands, brainstorming in real time, and feeling the hum of a Gigafactory firsthand.

The Perfect Fit

This job isn’t just a role—it’s a calling. My sales chops can open doors for energy storage deals. My marketing know-how can tell the story of why it matters. My leadership experience—nonprofits, music groups, sales teams—means I can rally people around a vision. And my web skills? A little extra juice for Tesla’s digital game. At 62, I bring seasoned smarts and a work ethic that doesn’t quit. Age isn’t a number; it’s a badge of battles won.

So, Tesla, here’s my pitch: I’m Adam R. Sweet, a guy who’s sold, built, and taught his way through life, ready to power up your energy storage mission. I’ll bring my skills, my Starlink lifeline, and a mandolin for good measure. Let’s make some noise—sustainable, electric, and unstoppable.
